This volume invites the ordinary reader to share the author's joy at discovering the mother of Jesus relatively late in life, and finding in her a rich resource for her own Christian faith. She writes from the background of an evangelical Protestant upbringing, from experience of living in a Third World country, and from her own experience of motherhood. The book is intended to stimulate the reader to think about the biblical Mary in a different light, and to spark fresh insights. The Mary who emerges was fearless in joy and suffering, took charge of her life, with all the threats her situation implied, and emerges as a model of strength in discipleship far removed from traditional pious images.
